My original video was clutterd and un-clear and i wanted to make a statment about
speed.
Using rotoscope technic I made a short film of the speed in progress.
This came from my orginal speed footage but viewed the ground whirring past my wheels.
The rotoscope shows single frames that I have altererd using New Action button which has now become a fast growing tool for me.
I can see how much it will help me in the future and will be using it next semester.

Wheely un-wheel

I made this as the second submission to the project Spark to the pixel.
I thought of how a spark is a very fast moment in time and want to capture this idea with the action of bearings.
I had to change the way i held the camera for the lowest possible angle.
After i had made this footage i broke it into 6 frames a second so i could change the individual frames.
In photoshop i used paint daub and "NEW ACTION" which i learnt this semester.
This helped me hugly to complete the video.
I didnt want the frame to be reconised until it was put back into sequence.
I like this idea because it made the final footage a blurrie pixelated version of the skating.

Slow motion live.

This is the footage from my circles presentation

Photos

This is 12 pinhole views from a frisbee flight

Darren Glass

Darren has a series of works made by a frisbee with a pin hole camera on the top.
this would be opened for the time of flight, it would scrawl a spiral of vision of what was directly above it.
I found my work to be similar as it was not reconised as actual objects.
So no assumptions can be made about it.

Mapping tricks with circles

For the mapping project I made a series of maps about particular skateboarding tricks.
My idea was to layout the high speed tick in slow motion to get a better view,
This helped me to realise the parameters of the tricks.
Then I overlayed the footage with some photoshopped circles to show the direction of the trick in orientation.
I also added the feet to be seen as circles to show relation to the skater.

Spark t the Pixel

Using some footage of the skateboard wheel made some more similar.
It is basicly a very low camera angle of the wheel.
Holding the camera in a new grip.
This ment i could get the lowest and widest veiw of the action.
It gives the footage a lot of speed when the camera is so low, this is very effective use of footage to transform.
Looking at this i decided it would need some pixelating.
Trying to make it digital i found a filter called "paint duab"
I used "NEW ACTION" to make and action to transform all frames and this speed up the process a lot!
I like the look of the individual frames as they have a certain layer effect to them.
as a moving image i think it is very blurrie.
It was my attempt to immitate "a scanner darkly" style with actully rotoshopping.

Here is a single frame that i took from the sequence

Circles of direction

This is a progressive video of turning a skateboarding trick into circles.
It relies on the two axis/directions that a skateboard can go.
Forward and Backward, described by the red circle and torsion described by the yellow circle.
The blue and green circles represent the feet of the skater.

Whats so great about speed?

I would like to explore speed and what can be seen as speed.
What speed can i reach?
What speed am i comfortable or uncomfortable in?
Where do I like to skate?
How can i be better at speed?

How can i show this as a spark to the pixel?
I will explore the concepts of speed and what make it so great.

Freedom to find speed

Skateboarding is about speed.
the more speed you can find the better.
With bearings this is possible.
I find this as the most important factor and I'm always trying to take
care of my bearings.

Light and time mapping

I would like to look at Michael Bosanko as a time mapping artist.

Mapping

As opposed to traditional mapping of area i would like to map time.
This may be of an area but my idea is to get a better understanding of how time and area are connected.
I think the best way to map time is with a camera, weather its video or photo and will try experimenting with a range of capturing and exposing.

Pixel to the spark

I enjoyed the making my animation and have lernt a trick or two about minimal structuring rotorscoping.
Making the film was alot of fun but stressfull and varibles were many.
If i could (i may do) i would cross dissolve more frames into my rotorscope and try more intresting skatboarding views.
I think this project has taught me to think of process in layer form, adjust position and move on.
I hope i can resolve my ideas clearer to complete the rest of my year.

Music Please

Using a Synth i managed to time and track all my music so it was matching my rotorscope.
Its divided into 8 track of preselected sounds that run on a loop of 16bar.
It was fairly aeasy to use and wish i had more time to use one.

How i made my Rotorscope "Dream of Dream"

I started with some footage of skateborading and broke it down to about 1/11 frames per second using Adobe Premier.
After this i made 2 layers, one for background and one for the charcter. After 150 frames, each holding 2 layers, I brought them back into premier to be animated.

Dream of dream

Idea :
To introduce daylife skating into dreams of concrete mountain - viseversa
The serch for freedom???
How can one be free?
freeline? (bad pun)
Comical idea to skate on unsal surface with
freeline (would boggle any mind + plant the
question of possibilty = wondering = Dreamy!)

Can i buy a concrete mountain?
Would it be a playstation game?
How big is a dream?
why do we dream of walking somewhere when it is effortless to fly???
Effortless - to example somthing with ease.
Skateboarding - To make the effort of walking easyer?
Kick Push Coast... Kick Push Coast...
By comparison walking is a arcaic form of human energy charged transport.

Dreams are of life:
Why we dont start dreaming mid surreal moment...
Who knows when we start dreaming of if you'll even remeber that when you wake up, but usally you abosorb the surreal idea to fly out the window (LOL) while dreaming in a normal situation.

Lucid:
When a dreamer comes to realise their enviroment is tangable.
1. Adrenaline kick you so much that you wake up
2. Surrel control where flying, floating or breathing underwater have become no obstacal.

Skater dreams of freedom from friction and gravity.
Only shapes to use or dodge.

Dream of dream

I would like to make a character of cartoon and make him blur into a cartoon world.
Idea:
Camera angles/takes...
Character vision, tripod, dolley : these will divide my movie stance.

Character will be late for bus

Character is on a drug called "rage" which has a after effect of visual indifference.
Rage is a source of adrenaline and sixth sense which has been used for people with extreme physical activity.

Character is on adverse affect which is sleeping + dreaming.
Dreaming of skating down endless hills and exploring new places.
Dreams sometimes blur into reality and back,
how can we tell them apart?

He gets on bus down raod further and jumps on bus only to fall asleep

What is the idea?
Laziness and exhuasted
+ Drug
=
Early and Alert
=
Twice as lazy and exhuasted > Consentration on direction.

Time and Contrast

As a 3rd year electronic's artist i am looking at what i do and how i see my art.
I have always enjoyed time and see it as a tool for what i like to use.
I first intrested in art by photography, and this is where my contrast comes in.
As an artist i would like to explore these two further and hope to grow on them and learn

Remix

I would like to use the idea of animation is a remix "option"
i have really enjoyed using animation in the past and would enjoy seeing somthing that has been remixed with what i do everyday... skating

Previous intrests with light

I have been involved with making my own fire spinning toys for about 2 years now.
I discovered last year one called "rope dart" aka "dragon poi"
Picking this up and using for about an hour i had the general idea.

I think this is a great toy for night time and also for performances.
Using it like the martial art weapon to create streaks of blue light across ones vision, and many circles.
Its held in both hands about 1m apart and could be described as a cowboy lasso beacuse of it big circle and it throwing style.

Spark to the pixel

Analog and digital
i think there many differences and some clashes
I would like to look at high contrast light videos and exposure frames not as differences but of clashing ideas and perspectives.

A frame i would consider to be analog.
A video i consider a digital.

I think i will have fun sharing the difference

Motion psychology

To move or be moved by forces greater than one has.
But to be moved emotionally?
This is something often discovered by people trying to respond the question
“What was felt?” or “how did that feel?”
Amazing, wow, sick as, and even hell sick

These are not a feeling of motion!

These are:
Speed, movement, slipping, balance, acceleration,

Is it an assumption that something different is something exciting or do we make a connection with what we have seen

I would like to look at bearing culture and

Rotor scope

I enjoyed making this rotor scope
i find that it is a careful but repetitive cycle that makes you think ahead.
This is some footage is from the first scene in my first short film.
I like the footage becasue of the diverse camera angles and lighting.
I think this is a great starting point for something bigger

If i were to make it better i would add a turning wheel sound effect and shutter flick to make it more lively.

Rotoscope

I would like to make a short rotoscope as my early cienimatic example.
i will find a tape in my collection and remaster it.

wheels in motion

How can i describe moving upon wheels with nothing but self fed speed (no gears no chains or motors) to get across what i am thinking.
The only way i can see this being affective is to move people from A to B

How can i make respondants?

If i am to relate my work to seek effectively I'd like my viewers to respond.
However with what i have in mind i think that most will be interested and want to see more.

Who could make a response that will fit my interpretation of the work?
I hope to layout all possibilities and outcomes in hope for the right response.

Seek, response

Looking at variant media and its notes about seek i discoverd that it was more about responses or re-actions than anything else.
Robotic arms that were responding to the gerbils moving blocks around to describe intellegent architecture.

Note: History is a way of justifying the present.

Systems

Having trouble getting away from the computer system i thought about managment instead and tried to consider what i have good management of.
I use often is my freelines, which is a form of transport, experimental toy and a workout ^_^

The freeline is based on bearings

First Day

Back at school.
Exellent.
If only i understood what to do, lol
Back to school
